I really love this one, the textures and the gold against the dark violet. Since this is a lino print, how did you manage to cut out those tiny parts and how did you colour it. I'm sorry if my questions are stupid, I did lino only once in the 8th grade, and our prints really were far beyond the beauty and sophistication of yours.

Thanks I didn't use lino cutters for this one, I applied lacquer onto the lino, this acted as a resist. I then placed it into a bath of caustic soda, which eats away the exposed lino. The colouring is achieved by a three colour viscosity application.

kluxton [2009-11-20 00:06:13 +0000 UTC]

how long did the "etch" process take?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JetJames In reply to kluxton [2009-11-21 05:49:29 +0000 UTC]

It varies by the concentration of the caustic solution, plus you get different affects by how long its in there. So its worth experimenting Its not a long process.

Really impressive esperiment. Would it be the same acid used in copper etching i.e. intaglio?

Thanks. I used caustic soda to bite into the lino.

This picture is nuts! You should do a series. Nice experiment too! You said you wanted to work on the color more, how did you color it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JetJames In reply to Kimbalena [2008-12-09 20:31:32 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. Its a viscosity print I apply the first layer of colour (blue/ black) like I would do for an intaglio print. Then I rolled a dense- high viscosity colour ( transparent white yellow) over the plate . My final colour ( mangenta and transparent white) has a lower viscosity and is rolled over the surface and other colours. Then i print

Interesting experiment - you said it was caustic soda for some of it, on lino? Cool idea!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JetJames In reply to Lumbe [2008-08-28 02:57:18 +0000 UTC]

I placed the lino with lacquer on it into the caustic soda. That was the easy part! The colouring is something I might have to explore more
