Description
Contest entry for 's "Deep Sea Dragons" contest. The design is based mainly off of the long-nose chimaera fish, plus the lantern of a lanternfish, and then I added the wings of a flying fish, because it is, after all, a dragon. And that's supposed to be a hydrothermal vent in the background.Pencil sketch, colored in photoshop.

Lanternfish don't have laterns; what you're thinking of is an anglerfish. Still, I like this drawing!

As with some others, I see no flaw in how this creature would survive in real life. However, there are two things that you may want to take in to consideration.
1.The most noticable thing is that the thermal vent bubbles are a pattern which makes them unattractive.
2.Your creatures bioluminescence makes it appear that it is in a light section of the sea rather than the pitch black of the deep

Thanks! Yeah, I worked on those bubbles for a long time and had a lot of trouble with them. Maybe I'll go back and try to fix them?
Well, it does have a lantern attached to its head, which would provide some light, but I see what you mean.
