I've always been a fan of Greek/Roman myth. And recently Norse & Egyptian as well. That being said, I love this one. I always felt bad for Daphne.

I've been a huge fan too! And thank you, her story is so sad.

I've often wondered about that bit with the leaves. How'd Apollo know that removing them wouldn't cause her pain? Or did he simply not care?

EXACTLY! I mean she's still there, she's a tree.. what if it hurt her? What if he did it maliciously?

I believe he did. I think the story was meant to teach young maidens rejection of a horny male leads to an eternity of imprisonment. Otherwise, why don't these stories ever have the maiden turning back and returning to her family??

Ah, I just translated this from Ovid's Metamorphoses. Extremely creepy. All the description of Apollo chasing Daphne is extremely rapey (he smells her hair). I love what you did with this. The watercolor background creates a nice focus on Daphne's face and the details of the limbs. The pose is also great, since it gives a real sense of motion and not so much a "look at my beautiful womanly form turning into a tree" kind of pose.

Isn't it? And it's always been expressed as rapey, even by the versions that try to have him be 'in love' with her. It's been crazy forceful and just... yeah not good. Anyway thank you my dear! I was really hoping that I got motion captured, I wanted it to be in midtransformation and not really a pretty/erotic sight. Well kind of pretty but not 'look at how pretty I am' as you said lol
