I think this piece is amazing, i love the the detail and the colours, i never realised how much detail you can add with ballpoint pen and with minimal colour. The eye is the most sticking thing i see and adds mystery. I can see that this is a beast not to mess with and i love the mammal like element you have added to this dragon rather then the reptile like features.

The only negative thing i can say about this piece is the watermark covers it face which is a little distracting, maybe instead add your name at the bottom of it.

This really is a one of a kind piece of work and i cant wait to see more.

Thanks so much for the positive feedback it means alot and yes i agree that the watermark is a little in the way so i think putting my name in the corner is a better option, i just want to make sure that i am protected as i dont wish for people to steal my work.

thanks so much again, it makes me happy to see that people like my work so much

Here we go again e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

I like the way you positioned the head, especially the angle. Oblique head shots can be quite difficult to draw. The fur texture is nicely done, and the shading is good too.
One thing I do have a bit of an issue with (and that is me being very picky) is that you can't distinguish between the ear and the head. The ear kind of melts into the fur on the head, and it's only visible after a little while. I'm not sure whether that was meant to happen, but it is me being picky at the moment. Perhaps this could have been avoided with a bit more defined shadows around the ear area? Also I find myself focusing on the red eye of the dragon. I'm (again) not sure whether this is intentional, but I feel like the I have a cropped vision of the image, and the horns on the top of it's head are overlooked by the viewer. It seems to me that the eye steals all the attention, though it may have been by choice rather than unintentional.
I guess the face could be improved a bit too. The way the tip of the nose is positioned (and consequently the mouth) feels as if the end part of the muzzle was unnaturally tilting towards the viewer. I think that a bit of correction there could make quite a difference; the correction being either tilting the whole head or simply fixing the nose and mouth positioning. The shading could be more defined, though this is personal views as well and the current shading doesn't hinder the painting in any way.
Overall, this is an excellent piece. Did you use a pencil at any stage to make a sketch or use ballpoint pen and watercolour without any preliminary sketches? Either way, this is an amazing piece. I love how, with only two basic colours, you managed to create a beautiful piece with a mystical atmosphere, where others would have used a lot of special effects. Spectacular work, keep it up!

thanks you, i suppose it all depends on taste on this piece, i can say for the eye, i like to have it as the main focus of the piece, having the eye the way it is draws people to the painting as it is also in the centre, i want it to show mystery and power within the beast itsself. i think i often like the blend the fur a certain  way which may make the ear get a little lost, i agree that perhaps the top part of the ear should have more shading to distinguish it from the horns and head. i did indeed do a quick little sketch beforehand , at first it wasn't intended to be a proper piece of art by a little  sketch which turned out pretty well so i carried on.

Thanks for the feedback

Ah, I see. Well, in that case I do apologize for the eye part. I was simply unsure whether you wanted it as the focus or not. Once again, stunning work I guess my critique was more personal taste. I do apologize for that.

what i would suggest which is what i do, i scan my work and then print out a copy and then paint on the copy so you have both and if it dont look right it dont matter as its only on the copy and you can print it out as many times as you want, you can even print it on artist paper . hope it helps, it really helps me

oooh, that is a good suggestion--although we currently don't
have a working printer at my place ><' lol, haven't used a
printer in forever. lol. Might get one soon though...I have
a scanner, but no printer..I wonder how that works?! lol
Thank you so much for the suggestion though, I'll keep
that in mind!

aha awe no, yeah get a printer defo, its worth a shot and it helps me alot and then thats 2 pieces you could selll as well. i even worse when it comes to background aha so that another thing i want to work on

Alrighty, will think about getting one sometime
yeah that's true, huh.
oh yeah, me too, I have a difficult time with backgrounds as well
@.@ lol. I tend to draw a lot of trees and mountains,
but have a really hard time with
flowers and such and more man-made environments
and perspective =/
I was wondering, do you happen to have a skype or something?
I don't want to bother you if you don't want to chat though ><'

yeah i cant stand man made stuff aha i love the nature and how perfect it is without being person, nothings straight or anything, everything is amazing in its own way, its so hard to paint backgrounds ...like i can do landscapes with oils but there not very good and you have to be careful with bakgrounds that they dont distract people from the main subject of the painting, sometimes the main focus can get lost in the background which is like my worse nightmare, and yeah sure i have skype and facebook, i send you a message with my names for them

Koi-Lantern In reply to jessburnett [2013-11-27 16:30:40 +0000 UTC]

and there are so many pretty colors and forms in nature XD
but I still want to be able to draw man-made things sometimes
anyways.
oy, just keep practicing?
yeah that's true, I noticed that with some of my paintings/drawings
the focus kinda got lost.
awesome!

You have such an eye and dedication to detail!

I don't see any issues other than the snout is turned toward us. If you were going for a true profile, then we wouldn't see the front of the nose.

I like how the eye pops and draws you into the picture.

Excellent work!
