Description Comic Book Page, Aquaman Miniseries 2, Unpublished. Pencil. After the success of the first Aquaman miniseries by the late writer, Neal Pozner, and artist Craig Hamilton in the late 80s, a "sequel" was in the works. However, it was beset with problems. I was hired to replace Craig, but was urged to adapt my art style to mimic his. I found it somewhat distasteful impersonating another artist, but accepted the challenge. I managed to maintain my own artistic identity, and suitably impressed the editor. However, I lost too much time adapting consistently, and my failures caused the project to stall, and finally be cancelled. Mea culpa.

This illustration was a full-page splash (no pun intended!) based on a finished page turned in by Craig. Aquaman and his wife Mera return to Atlantis at the head of a solemn procession. The defeated Atlantean Army has come home (Hmm... Since they're under water, shouldn't that be "Atlantean Navy?" lol ...sorry...). Their dead and wounded bodies are borne on biers and travois by whales and other sea creatures.

Craig was very gracious when I finally met him one year at the San Diego Comic Convention.

Stunning! The level of detail in this is nothing short of opulent. Asking you to mimic another artist was an unfair request, but you handled it admirably.

JKM-

That is a fantastic piece.

As curator of The Aquaman Shrine blog ([link] ) I still weep at the lost opportunity to have a follow-up mini-series. From the look of this piece, it would've been a blockbuster.

2 questions: 1)Can I use this piece on The Aquaman Shrine, with a link to your page here?

2)Would you be interested in doing an interview with me for the Shrine? I'd love to talk to you about career and your experiences on the Aquaman project.

If so, please drop me a line at namtab29@comcast.net

Thanks and take care,
rob!

Thank you.

1) Umm... I guess it's all right.
2) I don't know how much I could contribute to an interview centered around Aquaman. My experience with the character is fleeting at best.

Plus, I can't even swim.

Awesome work. I'm a big fan of that 4 issue series and would've loved to see it followed up. Especially now that i see the art. Too bad eh.

Nicely done.
