Real question, how do you get the visual depth of grass with that brush? It somehow conveys such a 'grass' texture without having to draw each blade. Any advice?

I use the mixer brush to achieve this effect. You can find it under the brush tool (click-hold on the brush icon and it's the last one down). It's a bit tricky to get a hold of but the best is the experiment with it a lot to figure out how it works.
