Ahhh, more fun with facial expressions. My favorites are "Wistful" Woody, "Something's amiss" Buzz, and the pic in the top right corner.Anyway, I'm on a roll and still finding all sorts of fun to have with the Toy Story peeps. Specifically, Woody and Buzz Lightyear.
Don't expect me to stop anytime soon. I've noticed that the better I get at drawing sans references, the BETTER Buzz looks, and the MORE trouble I have keeping Woody on-model with the official Pixar style. It BOTHERS me. Buzz is getting MORE and MORE on-model with each sketch, while I struggle to keep Woody from being off-model whenever I sketch without looking at a pic or my doll. ARGH.
Oh well.
As you all know, Sheriff Woody Pride, Buzz Lightyear, and Toy Story are all (c) to Pixar/Disney.

Daaaamn, I can't help but think Woody looks so hot being all badass with his hat over his eye like that... Just reminds me of the opening scene of TS3, first time Woody walks on screen, never fals to send a shiver down my spine. Ooohhh Woody~ *starry eyes*

These are all gorgeous, but that top right sketch is twenty layers of hot buttered goddamn! Dramatic shading gets the job done, I tell you what.
I say, you know... you have a style. Your hand wants to naturally relax into it, and you shouldn't fight it, or at least see where it takes you. This is the face Buzz wants to have, and your Woody is pulling in a certain direction. Making them look like the Pixar standard is nice when that's what you want, but it's so much more interesting to see people's natural hands.
I saw a Toy Story storybook collection in the store today, and it was really cool -- maybe twenty or so different artists doing a little handful of sketches for each story, and their styles were all different. One of them was very old-school Disney, one was a charming mussed cray-pas, one was almost as angular as Jamie Hewlett. It was great! Nobody draws them like you do, and that's something special.

Ahaha, thanks. Looking at it again, Woody seems to be channeling Alucard in that top right pic. Something about the nose and the grin and the hat... Ah, well.
Thanks for the support, as always. My thing is that I was TRYING to match the Pixar style- or, rather, it doesn't look 100% like Woody to me if it DOESN'T. My brain won't accept it if the jaw and facial features don't match. *sigh* Still, I'm glad you like it and you like the way it turned out. <3

I think both look great. My fave is wistful Woody and you are so screwed Buzz though unimpressed Woody makes me giggle for some reason. I guess its because I can imagine him making that face to a few of the things I do.
