It gives him a purpose, and that is a beautiful thing. Without purpose in life, no matter how small, then there is no more point in living. And that is sad to see.Β

learned by watching my mom who no longer has a purpose to her life now that she can no longer see. Very, very difficult to watch someone who has spent most of her life volunteering and doing community service unable to even set up the Bingo game in the retirement home nor help serve drinks at the Friday happy hour like she used to. So she's just gradually fading away. And I am so far away . . .

Oh Julie.......how very sad for you and your Mum.
She can still speak though?Β Maybe she will find a way to get some sort of calm from just sitting with friends?
Life is so cruel.

Because my mom can no longer see to dial the phone and because she forgets from day to day--although she is sharp when you speak with her, for her age, she only has one friend left who faithfully takes her out to breakfast at least once per week. Her old friends that are scattered across the continent no longer call, and we don't even really know who is still alive and who isn't. Her other friends in the area just no longer bother with her despite her one loyal friend's urging for them to call her. So yes, it IS sad, and so hard to be so far away. We call regularly as does my daughter and my siblings. Half the time Mom can't remember who called or who didn't, and she is happy to talk to us. It makes her happy for awhile, but then she forgets. She has a wonderful attitude, doesn't have Alzheimer's just not enough stimulation of the brain to keep her memory exercised and working. She is in no distress but just wonders aloud, why she is still here on this earth since she has no purpose any more. At least in her book. Am tying to find seom volunteer group in her area that might have someone who come in to read to her or just chat with her a couple of times a week. Because she can no longer see faces, she won't make new friends--and to be honest, she has seen all the friends that she did make in the retirement home pass away before her--and that makes her sad and not want to make new ones. I can understand that too. We just need to find a way in society to make much better use of our older people and then teach our younger ones why and how they should value and take care of those who live so long and need kind, loving care.Β
These are the times when it is really hard to be so far away . . .but you do need to understand that she's not unhappy in any way. Just a bit tired of life as it is for her now. thanks for the love!

Good capture, Jenny. Β The subdued colors really match the scene.
I love the Centre Pompidou! Β A very good art collection.
