Description
This is an Aliken closely related to Unicorns. Their necks are slightly longer to allow them to see over their shoulders and around corners as thier brightly colored hides with sometimes wild patterns make them targets for vicious predators. As they mature they gain the ability to shift to an anthro form. Because of a population explosion of the chief predator of the Alikens, there has been a movement to help place some in safe environments. We hope you have a place in your heart and home for an Aliken in need. Some say they bring good luck to a human household.ADOPTION CLOSED

I will start off by saying that I like this piece very much. The way that you use cool colors for the main fur and hair, yet made the swirls on the body an earth-toned color, gives the feel that even though this unicorn is magical, it's still has a connection to the earth and nature. I also admired how you blended in the green with the blue in the tail. It's enough for you to see it, but it doesn't overpower the other color.
To be honest, I've never heard of an "Aliken" before, but the backstory that you made up for this one is very imaginative, and it makes others want to research more about the creature.
For the technique, you did pretty well. However, I would suggest that the background be toned down a bit. The intense color of the fire sort of pulls the focus away from the Aliken and is a little hard on the eyes.
The impact with the picture combined with the story, makes the creature interesting and magical at the same time.

Thanks, your critique was thoughtful and helpful! I appreciate it so much! As for Alikens, that is a something I made up just to be able to put my own spin on the everyday unicorn, and to maybe make it more appealing as an adoptable. I am glad you liked it's back story!

First of all, I would really like to say how much I like the overall style of the work. I really like how you made it look sort of painty like, like how you can see the strokes. I think that gives the piece more character than if you didn't do that.
The overall anatomy of the horse looks pretty good to me (I am no professional when it comes to horse anatomy though) but there is one thing that bothers me a bit. The horn should be coming out of the purple part and not just the line, but that is just me. I think it looks good either way.
There are also a few spots where it looks like you went a little off with your pen too, but I am not going to hold that against you. Nobody is perfect, and I think that it's the flaws that make the piece that much more unique.
I do like the colors you chose, especially for the hair of the horse. You did really good with the tail and making it looks like the tail is swirling, and you did a really good job with the shading as well.
