Hi Jenn...

I have only just done a critique on a similar submission so had to make this my next one.

I like these kind of photos and this one has a lot in it that is pleasing to the eye. On the left hand side you have the tall buildings and shorter ones too with the busy road below and the colours are very pleasing there. with the remaining 80%, the midground looks very good with the buildings being lit up.But where I think it loses some appeal is in the foreground in the area below that. I dont really know what could be done there though as if there are no street lights it just wont be as bright. I can see what looks like a park there with a lake and plenty of grass but as that area is rather dark I cannot make it out properly. My eyes were drawn to the lit part of the photo only and the subject looks really interesting only to be let down with the area that cannot be seen very well.

How could that be improved, I really dont know but if the lake and some of the surrounding area was brighter I think this would be superb. I can see on the extreme left there is a lot of light and buildings and perhaps it would have helped if you had panned to the left about 20% and then I think the shot would have been even better. Perhaps also just lightly increase the brightness and contrast very slightly to try and bring the lake to life. But all in all, its a pleasent shot that gave me a lot of pleasure to see.

Cheers

Hi Nigel,
First, thank you so much for the critiques I am still learning and feedback and advise is very much appreciated. Please take a look at this [link] and let me know what you think; I took your suggestion and brightened the photo in Adobe Photoshop and added just a little contrast. I must say I kinda like the way this brings out the colors in the clouds. You can find both versions on the site for comparison. I look forward to your response.

Thanks,
Jenn

I took a look at that one Jenn and it is a hard photo to adjust. You have the area that has a lot of lights and then the totally dark area of the park. But you have done well with adjustments and I might copy/paste and take a look at it this weekend to see what I can do if you dont mind?

Cheers
