wait, seven? what about painted buntings, indigo buntings, scrub jays, Purple Gallinules, glossy ibises, mallards, spoonbills, kinglets, knatcatchers, parrots, american kestrels, warblers, vireos, evening grosbeaks, vermilion flycatchers, pine grosbeaks, swallows, brown headed cowbirds, buffleheads, purple finches, house finches, redpolls, dickcissels, europian starlings, red headed woodpeckers, meadowlarks, horned larks, spoonbills, and grackles?

While I concede that grackles and woodpeckers (I'd count red-bellied before red-headed) and mallards are pretty, I don't consider them overly colorful. I'm told that vireos and buntings exist but can't say I've ever seen those. The rest are just names of birds that I've heard of or seen in captivity. I don't do a lot of bird watching, granted, but the variety that I've seen isn't overly stunning as compared to some other places. Especially since I'm using the term 'East Coast' very loosely. I live in a cultural and natural deadhole for most intents and purposes and could probably name most of the wildlife I commonly see in a single post of relatively average length.
