The species Vanessa Atalanta, or Red Admiral butterfly. This one is a particularly magnificent specimen, and as I can see from the trickles of discolouration in the veins of its hindwings sadly nearing the end of its life. This is a very beautiful capture of one of nature's most enduring beauties.
