In reality and apart from his job, Vanitas can be quite different, dropping his cheery facade. He’s sometimes uncertain about himself and can have a hard time trusting someone completely. Vanitas was born in a small country that is slightly isolated from the rest of the world. It flourished with magic and at least half of the townspeople were mages. Growing up in this town, Vanitas learned from his parents and mentors and delved in magic from a young age. As both his parents were mages, he too was a mage and had a lot of magic potential to begin with. When the country began to face pressures of both diminishing resources and the expansion of other countries, its king began to make deals with neighboring countries to sustain itself. As this happened, things and policies in the country began to change and although Vanitas is regretful of leaving his parents, he set out to travel.
When Vanitas first began his travels, he was eager to be of use to those around him and happily helped others with his magic at all opportunity. However, he slowly began to realize that more and more people started to take advantage of him and his magic abilities. When he decided to temporarily retire all use of his magic, he was stunned to realize that all his “friends” left him. Gradually, he learned to hide his true emotions and the idea of settling down no longer appealed to him. To make money, he began to work as a part time host, slowly building an out-going and carefree personality to better attract customers.
Vanitas discovered Prima when he left his previous town in search of a new place that could offer a little more peace and quiet than the previous ones. At least for now, here, he would stay.

- As a mage, he specializes in enchanting objects into temporarily maintaining a sprite form and doing his biddings, the strength of these sprites varies
- He learned to fortune tell both as something to bring up while on his job, but also because he is very interested in astrology
