Description We studied Phantom in my musical theater class last week. Why is there such an overwhelming desire in me to make fun of him? I mean, even if he's sympathetic or whatever...he's so whiny.

Especially movie!phantom. OMG, your face is not that bad, and half of you is still incredibly sexy...and really, after you get used to the freaky side....we'll, lets just say I would give up sunlight to live down there and make out with you. I'm just saying, folks....
My mom hated that last little sketch. LOL LOVE YOU MOM!

I totally agree! As much as I love Erik, he was really whiny in the 2004 movie. All of us can agree that that sunburn was nothing!. . .But I still love the movie Erik, and the original Erik.
But I love this picture! And Phantom of the Opera was always the best thing to ever study in class! Perfect excuse to be in Phan-girl mode during school. . .As long as you don't squeal.
Once in 8th grade we talked about POTO for a month because the class was going to see the Broadway play, but, I didn't get to go because my parents didn't want me to go to Las Vegas. I was devastated.

haha, i like this, even though i'm team phantom. i agree that his deformity should've been a bit worse in the movie, or they should have at least stuck to the original 'skeleton' look, but the one he has in the adaptation is good as well, by my opinion. i think that their general goal was to make erik's role as appealing and as seducing as well as scary. and our half-deformed gerik pulled that off better than anorexic, skelety one would. not that i don't adore leroux's original erik more than gerik, but i really did love the movie and don't think erik was whiny. i mean, as for raoul's whynnyness, didn't he cry every ten minutes in the book? even in the movie he was overexaggerated and soft to me. and about erik being a bit dramatic himself, well how would the book and the movie look like if he was normal? isn't his behavior the entire point of his character and the story? the man was tortured and alone most of his life, for heaven's sake, he's supposed to be all edgy and on the edge of being completely nuts, at least movie erik was less crazy when it came to that than leroux's one. it's just my opinion, and i don't hate on any erik haters since everyone has their own way on how they take a book/movie character that they see/read, i just wanted to say this, seeing some of the comments above without any anger or anything like that.

Aww this is both cute and funny, whiney Gerik, I much prefer the other versions of the Phantom, the ones with actual deformaties for one!

Hehe...well, his minor deformity makes him much easier on the eyes, but yes, also a lot more difficult to take seriously.

True, but he's not really supposed to be easy on the eyes

This is great! And I agree; movie phantom needed some serious therapy. I think the director was afraid to overshadow Gerard's looks...

...he didn't, in the long run.

Love the sketch! Keep up the good work!

I bet they do have ugly babies. And Raoul's all, "You cheated on me! There's no way two people as beautiful as us could have babies this ugly! NO WAY! You little viper!"
(ps- don't tell anybody, but I spent all last night reading Phantom fanfic instead of studying for the 2 tests I have today....*dies*)

I agree.

Everytime I run across some fangirl who thinks that Christine and the Phantom should've got together I think..."Hey, WHO was a major dick again? Yeah, not Raoul, the one who actually proposed and was nice to her...and not a whiny baby..."

So True! I actually have problems with Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom...I so badly don't want things to suck for the Phantom because, yeah, whatever, your life is soo hard...but he just doesn't deserve to end up with her. *shrug* I wanna be like, how bout you quit the killin and blackmail and get a job, like all the other deformed people?

or not so deformed (*cough** movieverse *cough*) I bet he could get a job where the mask and wig would be okay - and if his employer tried to make him go without he could always take them to court for causing him undue emotional duress.

Or, y'know, there's always garoting as a fallback.
