Description

recently i drew some starship troopers scout suits and neodog...

i was going to focus mostly on the mobile infantry, but after some requests i figured i would also draw some of the things not often depicted in ST fiction outside the book.

=rifle bug

in the book the arachnids warriors could use direct energy rifles. not sure if its some type of manufactured weapon, but i decided to go with a bio-mechanical design. a chemical laser. the chemicals are naturally produced by the bugs digestive system, while the rifle itself is filled with lenses that appear to not be natural, and instead must've been artificially created and then inserted into the rifle when the bug was developing in the hatchery.

the rifle bug itself has less armor then most warrior forms as it needs more room for its complicated digestive system. the rifle bug was developed with a darker carapace to make it better at hiding at night. a type of genetically bred snipers nest. their eyes are much more advanced then warrior bugs, with further advanced light spectrums and thermals as well as the capability to focus on targets at a great distance, there is even an additional eye on the rifle itself, better to zero in its rifle in line with its target (the rifle eye is usualy regulated to sniper bugs, while the average rifle bug is just meant to try to fire at a high rate at enemies).

the chemical laser rifle has a main feed tube that is a powerful muscle that keeps the chemical fuel of the weapon feeding at a very high speed. the other lower tube is a type of heat sink that draws heat away from the bio organics and the lenses to keep them cool. there is a "mouth" of the rifle that closes when not firing in order to keep dust off the lenses.

the rifle bugs have been nicknamed "blam clams". a reference to the heavy brow armor that looks like a clam shell.

=skinnies

although they have little role in the book, in the CGI animated series "roughnecks" the skinnies have a larger role with one joining Johny Rico's squad. but i decided to diverge from that depiction, going with something closer to what i imagined when the book briefly described them. their weapon is a type of low velocity rail gun (its penetration comparable to our own modern 7.62). their armor is a type of leather covering ceramics.

for their society i want to have it be tribal. that way we could have groups of skinnies friendly to the federation (with soldier exchange programs as shown in the CGI series), while at the same time having some tribes that are allied with the bugs that have to be "convinced" by the MI that that is not such a good idea.

expect more starship troopers art in the future as well as a size chart comparing everything.
