character is based on the anime series, Strike Witches. it was a rather odd concept for me back then but I actually enjoyed the show.

Interesting drawing! Indeed Strike Witches has a weird premise, but it is a noteworthy classic to us. You did great capturing that SW look and feel... only it's Roberta! ^u^

No she is a witch, and those machines on her legs are an analog for her 'witches broom'. A high altitude magic machine that allows the witch to fight and fly very high, and helps her survive battles against " the enemy of mankind" in the anime she is based off of.

I wouldn't expect a jetpack to fly at combat plane speeds. Each "striker unit" is based off of a real world fighter plane, and thus shares many of the same statistics and flight capabilities. I.E. they can fly at speeds exceeding 700 km/h (approximately 400 mph) why? Because anime logic. xD

the idea is it's made for combat, so they can maneuver them any way they want.
