I like it a lot. It would speak to me more if there wasn't the pointy ear thought. Because it looked like such a typical painting, like something that could really happen. I liked that. The ear just seems to say "sorry not for you".

I'd say that this is pretty far from a 'sad attempt'. Excellent pose, setting, and of course, style. For some reason I like the whole 'staredown with the hummingbird' thing.
