Anyone who uses Janet Arnold as a source is good in my book. Also looks nice.

This is so, so good, and I wish I could make something similar for visiting our local Ren Faire with my beginning sewing skills!

Ah! This is fabulous! I love how you adapted the doublet to the elizabethan woman's shape :'D Totally inspired!

This looks so well made- and it's so flattering too! (Can it really be Elizabethan then- LOL!) They can only dream of having costumes this nice on "The Tudors." That show gives me nightmares sometimes.
Have you been working on any new costumes lately? I know you've been working at a corporate job- how it's been going?

Thank you! This was actually a WIP shot that I need to update. I finished the basic doublet on a deadline, and then later made sleeves and hanging sleeves for it. Unfortunately all of my pictures from the day I wore the complete outfit came out really wonky so I don't have a good shot of it. I need to harass my friend and see if she got a good picture of me so I can post it. That or set up a shoot.
As far as other costumes, I have been pretty swamped with adjusting to work and living in a new city. I average about a 65-70 hour week. I just keep telling myself that it's a chance for me to earn some money so I can go back to school and do something I'm passionate about.
That said, I was hunting for fabric stores in Dallas only yesterday because my fingers were itching to sew. We'll see...

yeah, right now I'm both blessing and cursing job security.
I haven't seen the other Boleyn Girl, but from the previews the costumes looked really fun, if not entirely historically accurate. I'm really behind on my costume films.

TOBG is fluffy, but the costumes are great. Yeah, they tweaked a number of things (modern fabrics, some German Renaissance stylings for the women, farthingales too big for the 1530s) but they got a lot surprisingly right. Like the furs- the necklines that aren't too low- and all the lovingly done hoods! The hats and hoods look so good, which just kind of blew me away. You almost never see well-done hats in costume dramas.

I really love the paintings of the young men in all black by Bronzino. They all had black doublets. Eventually, now that I'm out of school, I want to make one too.

Dehm, that is some fine doublet.
You know, if you don't like these pics, there are several you had me take...want me to send them to you?

I feel like sewing is one of the more masochistic crafts. It's horribly expensive, time consuming, frustrating, and difficult to perfect, and unless you're making something like this, you can probably buy a similar garment somewhere that would be far and away more cost and labor efficient. But i just can't stop, it's like torture i inflict on myself and then enjoy it...

I understand that. I HATE making skirts...I think it's the gathering part...but I can whip one together in a couple hours from cutting to hemming. So I have been doing a ton of work on other things and leaving skirts til the last minute..LOL
