Here's a concept of British space superiority fighter. The armament is: two Vickers .303 MGs, two 37 mm cannons in the upper wings and Oerlikon 20 mm cannon in the front of the hull.Done today during Polish and Biology classes.

Something about "Steampunk" designs is that even if a Sci-Fi space epic isn't overall steampunk in its concepts, the steampunk look can be applicable to lower budget or scrap yard salvaging pirates, rebels and mercenaries to contrast with smoother or more menacing designs of better financed organizations or military groups.
