I think it's more like you have seen individual features and made observations from life, and then you can combine them to create new faces from imagination.

doing portraits from reference and life helps What you learn will stick to your portraits from imagination. The faces I paint are not really reslistic either, i need to make more studies too!

vaka9 In reply to janaschi [2016-03-31 06:11:07 +0000 UTC]

I had some bad experiences with references as it limits my output or something... and there is also infamous "copy mode"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

janaschi In reply to vaka9 [2016-04-01 02:35:59 +0000 UTC]

i dont think its a bad thing if you try to copy something 1:1 for the sake of doing a study

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

vaka9 In reply to janaschi [2016-04-02 07:35:46 +0000 UTC]

yeah if you can actually stay in the study mode. But what I like about art is that you learn to pay attention to amazing stuff around you like how the light is working and stuff. God made best art and it is called the universe.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

janaschi In reply to vaka9 [2016-04-10 20:34:56 +0000 UTC]

yeah but you can also learn that from doing studies. you can also do studies and paint from life. thats the best to observe light i think i really think its essential to get better. without studying you just draw the same thing over and over again, because you dont build up your visual library. its pretty much like learning vocabulary. you have to repeat and repeat before you will be able to remember by yourself.
i dont believe god created the universe btw

vaka9 In reply to janaschi [2016-04-12 15:48:51 +0000 UTC]

yeah well I feel like believers are rare in digital art so it doesn't suprise me really. On the contrary, a lot of artists seem to be fascinated with demonic side of things, even if they deny to have faith in them. The whole "do what you want" satanic theme. I mean it is atractive to our fallen nature and entertainment industry use it to sell us their stuff.

janaschi In reply to vaka9 [2016-04-14 00:09:01 +0000 UTC]

Just because I dont believe in God doesnt mean I dont have good morals I think you can still have similar things you aim for in life, christian or not. Being a good person for example.

Thank you JanaschiΒ I could better understand what I lack in order to create drawings of imagination,This is my biggest difficulty today.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

vaka9 In reply to janaschi [2016-04-14 05:45:25 +0000 UTC]

yeah well but sometimes faith is the only reason why not to try things that seem atractive like drugs that can eventually destroy your life. Because morals are fluid and especially nowadays but the Church gives you this solid rock of doctrine with few important "no no"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

janaschi In reply to vaka9 [2016-04-15 21:19:07 +0000 UTC]

there are so many other reasons besides faith, not to do drugs, youre gonna fuck up your health, you can get addicted, its a huge money loss, you eventually let down people around you. For most things in life I feel I personally dont need faith. with basic morals you pretty much get to similar results, besides being pro gay maybe

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

vaka9 In reply to janaschi [2016-04-17 11:09:46 +0000 UTC]

yeah but all this reasons only work if you are reasonable all the time

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

janaschi In reply to vaka9 [2016-04-17 21:30:06 +0000 UTC]

and being christian makes you reasonable all the time?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

vaka9 In reply to janaschi [2016-04-18 04:41:16 +0000 UTC]

no but you see in certain situations only the unresonable reason can work. Like imagine you are a student and people around you are doing drugs and at the moment seem pretty happy about it. So it seems like it is reasonable thing to do. But faith with its taboos can save you so much trouble

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

janaschi In reply to vaka9 [2016-04-18 06:23:26 +0000 UTC]

yeh but being smart about it can save you from the same trouble. I mean not everyone who is not religious would get into trouble like this. There are other reasons not to do it. Despite that I doubt all religious people are completely free from drug abuse.
What I wanted to say is, you dont need to be faith to be a reasonable person. it might help some people, sure, but its not a guarantee either. nothing really is. People are acting stupid on all levels, as well as they are sometimes doing very good decisions, hopefully most of them.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

vaka9 In reply to janaschi [2016-04-18 20:51:26 +0000 UTC]

yeah I just think that we are very often clouded in our judgment about what is right and wrong and if we just trust our own judgment we can be easily misled but religion gives us this clear answers that are external and can be used even if at the moment are against our own judgment.

I am trying to get to a point where I can get this result without anything to use as reference. The way you managed to render the lighting is very impressive. Β I notice you have one of the same issues I encounter which is the tendency to turn out the facial features toward you. I notice this particularly in the mouth of the head sketches. Not that it matters that much. Each one comes off very convincingly. Β  Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

janaschi In reply to Jimberlicious [2016-03-31 00:47:56 +0000 UTC]

yeah there are still a lot of flaws. I tend to do the same mistakes over and over. That usually comes if you dont do enough of studies. and thats for sure a problem of mine, I paint and draw too much from imagination So your brain doesnt develop a bigger visual library and you end up doing the same thing over and over again :0Β

Nicely done.

I'm curious, as these are sketches; did you use many layer?

janaschi In reply to Darkaids [2016-03-31 00:48:32 +0000 UTC]

thank you!
I painted them all on one layer, and in the end I did some color corections! (they were all black and white before)
