Description A couple of weekends ago my wife and I stumbled across a monastery road sign while driving through the back-roads of Conyers, GA. It seemed rather odd to come across a monastery some 20 miles southeast Atlanta. So we decided to follow the sign. Turns out it was pointing down the wrong road, but we eventually found the monastery thanks to my awesome Navigator. I was expecting to find something small and possibly abandoned, but what we came across was the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, a Roman Catholic monastery belonging to Trappists. Some 48 monks currently reside in the monastery. The monastery sustains itself through its Abbey Store, a bonsai garden nursery, and a retreat house for visiting guests. The monastery itself was founded in 1944. While there, we learned that life for the monks that live here starts at 4 am and grand silence for both monks and guests is required after 8 pm. The following are some pictures from our stop at the monastery.

That must have been a pleasant surprise to stumble upon. I've been to this monastery many times. My mom use to work with the monks (I think she still does) designing their brochures and the calenders they sell every year. She became good friends with some of the monks. They're really cool guys, actually.
The one that she worked with a lot (who became a good friend of the family) would always lend us movies like Snakes on a Plane and Van Hellsing. xP
Anyway, it's a beautiful and relaxing place to visit, no matter what your religion is (I'm not at all Catholic, but I still loved going there).
I'm glad you got the chance to visit this little oasis of Conyers.

Thanks for commenting on the photo. I might start uploading more of my work now that I see people are actually coming across it. Yes, it was a wonderful location to relax for a while. My wife and I may do a retreat there some day at the house they run. Good to hear that the Monks enjoy some good movies from time to time.
