Thanks for the critique knemius. I couldn't agree with you more. The shot only required it as it was so I didn't want to tamper with it any more than needed.
I did think about fine tuning and adding more structures and detailing the slums etc, adding smoke/atmospheric effects and so on but I just had to let it go and get other stuff done...maybe one day I will get round to it.
Thanks again!
James.

Extrodinary... I have some difficulty with cityscapes.Β This is inspiring to me to try harder.Β

Thanks DS - it took me weeks to get this image done, so somehow I need to drastically speed up the process, which is necessary to make a living from it. Getting there...

Yea I took an environmental game design workshop awhile back and I had to do some kind of cityscape and I sucked lol.Β I think it's the perspective of the buildings I kept messing up.Β But practice makes perfect.Β The workshop taught you how to paint faster and still get detail by using your own textures, shapes, and stuff but other people took parts of buildings off pictures and then painted around them and meshed them in the painting.Β The fact that yours is all painted from the beginning is awesome.Β

Yes, most professionals WILL mesh in photos to speed up the process and get instant compressed detail. I will have to do that too as painting can take ages...!

Thanks again. The slum area was going to be out of the final shot, so, as is often, I wasn't required to finish them.

love your art. thats a crazy amount of manipulation. how much simpler does a tablet make art like this?

JamesLedgerConcepts In reply to rockaddict44 [2013-07-10 19:05:00 +0000 UTC]
Thanks 44 - a tablet makes it 100% easier. Most of this was painted, but even doing manipulation is much easier with a tablet. Much more control. It takes a few days at least to get used to a tablet though as it is quite weird at first. Using a pen is much better for the wrist too - I can draw for hours and hours continuously and I never get an aching wrist. A mouse is way too limiting.
I use a wacom intuos 5 large. The larger tablets are better because there is more room for arm movement. Also, larger tablets are quite essential for larger screens. Using a small tablet means that the cursor has to jump around the large screen area with very small hand movements, which is really frustrating and hard to control.

Thank you. I have to admit though my artistic skill with drawing is limited though. Still...It's nice to see someone who's good at a little of everything

You are one of the best artist on DA! But I agree with critique by knemius. The buildings in front are to similar, while those skyscrapers at the back are so manifold. But all the same it's amazing. You are amazing!
