Description

He could feel the heat tightening its grasp. Humidity wormed its way through his fur like maggots on a corpse. He could hear the anxious buzzing of mosquitos, and he wondered if they, too, were suffering.

The air was thick.

Odors rose from the bog.
His nostrils flared as they tickled his muzzle, attempting to steal his breath.

The subtle changes in the air vibrated his whiskers. The air enlightened him with each gentle touch that roused his hackles. The swamp was infested with so many voices, all jostling for his attention.

The darkness had taught him to see so much more.

The sound of water caressing the reeds and cypress roots lured the pale-eyed wolf closer, beckoning him into the pool. Musk mingled with the scent of stagnant stream, and coolness evaporated off the water's surface.

Relief.

Timidly, he tiptoed closer until his pawpads met sticky mud.

Closer.

He stalked closer.

Closer.

Water greeted him, and it clung tightly to his fur. It weighed on his fur, tugging him into the deep.

CLOSER.

The water grew chilled as he neared the center. It did not reach further than his belly, leaving his back exposed. But as he waded further in, the heat relinquished its hold on him as if it feared the murky depths.
He stopped.
Everything grew still.

He waited.
Listened.

Nothing.

This isn't EXACTLY how I envisioned this in my head, or how I wanted it to come out BUT I was bored and I drew this in--like--an hour and a half? Kinda a speedpaint I guess. Still playing around with backgrounds and compositions.
