My entry for *HasratAidenn 's contest. She's my absolute favorite author on deviantART. Go read her stuff. Now. D< Especially Mortal Heart.

Okay, this is her character Balael, complete with what I hope looks like a hat and a pinstripe jacket. ....Yeah.... I never draw hats... or pinstripe jackets. ....Well, I tried. Can't do much more than that.

Anyways, in the middle of working on this, I was reintroduced to a magical program. Adobe Illustrator. The lineart is so crisp and clean! n____n Base-coloring is easy now, too! Though, I think I prefer shading in Photoshop. You can make the shadows softer around the edges, and the smudge tool is readily available to manipulate them.

...I went a little weird on the background, though... But, I think it came out pretty well. I was considering making it shades of red instead of grayscale, but I wanted her face to stand out.
