And here's the color version.This whole thing was a good learning experience for me. Overall, I'm satisfied with how it came out, but I definitely learned a few things to stay away from in future projects.
Bonus round: can you spot the ninjas?
Edit: Made some minor color changes. Nothing really significant.

It's like, several things came back. You know how fashion wise things from the 70's or 80's will come back every so often? Usually not that eclectically, though. I'm trying to put my finger on it.
I'd say the middle eastern styles (from like Aladdin and Prince of Persia) plus steam punk and a dash of...can't put my finger on it.

She's from a nation in a friend's steampunk setting that is a mashup of various Middle-Eastern and Asian cultures, including Russian. Basically, far in the future, the planet gets ravaged by an apocalypse and one of the cities that forms from the ashes is made of refugees from all around Asia and northern Africa.

Well, the nation she's from is a huge mishmash of cultures that have been forced to live together in one giant city in a post-apocalyptic steampunk settings, so she and everyone else I designed for that city are supposed to look like they are also a giant cultural mishmash. Since it's a city based in what is modern day China, I decided to try and stick with mostly cultures you'd find across the entire Asian continent (China, Japan, Russia, India, Etc).
Not everything got represented, but I was going for a generally Asian/Middle Eastern feel for her.

Both she and the city she comes from were created as part of a online roleplaying universe a friend of mine created. Very interesting story, all played on what's boils down to a forum. Since he created it with input from several other people, it's not really my universe to expand on.

I do the same thing, but I'm unfortunately pretty flaky on following through with concept ideas... my friend who made up that world was shocked because I've very rarely drawn anything that he's talked to me about.
I'm really making an effort to step on that kind of stuff, though, so if you have some concepts you'd like to send me in a note, I'll see what I can do for ya.
