Description I always love making fairy tale illustrations. This picture of Snow White was done for the art community on Live Journal called Art Memes that I participate in.

Now technically, if I was remaining entirely true to the Brothers Grimm version of Snow White (which is my favorite), the apple's skin would be half red and half white, but I just like the visual of an all red apple better. A two-toned apple always seemed far too suspicious to me, but Snow White is a gullible girl.

The line art was inked on paper and then I painted on a series of ink washes. After that, I scanned it and all the color was added in Photoshop with my tablet.

Prints of this picture are now available!

February of 2006.

So, I just got back from seeing "Snow White and the Hunstman". I'm writing the Touhou Talk review tomorrow (I'm too tired now, and I'm supposed to take things more slowly with Touhou Talk in comparison to Touhou Reviews).

However, I can still give you my honest opinion on it:

it was awesome! A really good epic fantasy movie. Those movies are rarer nowadays (the only good one so far has been the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, which is why I'm excited for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey"), so it was a delight to finally see a good one on the big screen.

The Dark Forest is, appropiately enough, dark and surreal, the Sanctuary encapsulates all the magic and wonder and innocence of the original fairy tale, the Huntsman was really good as the gruff and tough badass with a heart of gold, the Dwarves were both awesome and hilarious, and Kristen Stewart was surprisingly good as Snow White. She was a true feminist icon: strong in spirit, a good leader, willing to stand up for herself and ready to fight evil while also being kind and sensitive. I guess "Twilight" is just badly written as opposed to badly acted.

And Queen Ravenna was a vriot. I love these cheesy over-the-top villains who shout and overact at every turn, it's just makes everything funnier (and, by proxy, more enjoyable). She reminded me of Raul Julia as M. Bison in the 90s "Street Fighter" movie, or Komodo from "Warriors of Virtue".

And, not to give anything away, but yes, the scene you depicted in the drawing happens. I won't tell you when, but trust me, you won't expect it. It seriously came out of left field.

I guess that my only complaint is that the Dark Forest scene went too long, trying to make the movie go to a place where it shouldn't go.

So, what about you, jackieocean? Did you see "Snow White and the Hunstman"? And if you did, what do you think of it?

She IS gullible. I love that story
Her hair seems a little...flat? that doesn't seem to be the right word...but it's the best I can think of.
This is really good.

in the original version Snow White is just so stupid, she fell in her step-mother's traps 3 times ! and the way she's finally saved is so funny and not romantic at all !
i really love fairytales and the Brothers Grimms' Cinderella is so different and a bit gory in the end (i can't remember Perrault's version)

I simply adore all of the textures in her hair - all those blue-black curly bits!

I think I'm also rather impressed with the subtle shading around Snow White's eyes. Beautiful work.
