Been watching the DCEU series, after BTAS I thought that “Superman The Animated series” would be a downgrade. But then I was pleasantly surprised, fell in love with the character. A man, not a perfect man, put in a position of such immense power by chance, then challenged to do good with it, to have to find what “good” even is when so much hangs on the state of his moral compass. For this design of course a great inspiration is the “Man of Steel” suit, the “alien” textures, the soberness of its colors. It gives it great presence. But it also has a bit of “Smallville” in it. Something amazing about the series was the design of Kriptonian tech, so deceivingly simple, so advanced yet so primordial. A part of it, the “Mark of El” is a great example of it, and I wanted to incorporate it to add little hint of it. Lastly of course, but even more importantly, the face, not a pretty boy, neither threatening, well put together but with some wildness in it. And personally that also meant a beard.
