Description As it's getting really cold in the last few days I wanted to upload something winter themed but as we don't have any snow yet (luckily) I looked through some older images from last winter. This one is a picture from the fir tree in our garden.Β

Camera Data: Nikon D5300 + Nikkor 16-85 @ 40mm | f/4.8 | 1/500s | ISO 100

CRPhotography comment:
Nothing to add regarding the constructive criticisms of JenFruzz
I understand the cropping and the way you were trying to avoid that xmas light...
Hope you can in the future move around your subject and try different views. Never forget to trust your first feelings and impressions. Moving around a subject (even an idea) is the best way to get your decisive moment to trigger and get your shot like: I got it
Would say cropping should be the last solution.Β
You managed anyway to get a real warm and delicate light and colors rendering. A little tip if you allow me to: try to set up your triggering speed Β around 1/160e s or little less in such situations, you'll be amazed by the colors and light rendering You can play with your aperture to do so.
Keep up the good work!Β

I like the warmth in this shot - it's definitely something different to the usual winter blues.

The coloring s very nice in this photo, nothing too harsh and nothing too plain. The lighting seems to be just right also. Maybe taking out that blurred branch on the right, but other than that, perfect photo

This shot is very pretty! The lighting is nice and there's a hint of snow. I agree with JenFruzz's comment below about having a consistent background. If you had elevated yourself to shoot the picture aiming downwards at the branch, you could get just a white background, which would make this a stronger piece. I would also suggest getting a bit more in of the branch next time, as it feels slightly cut off. Overall it is a happy simple piece and the only thing you need to work on is your composition!

thanks i actually cropped the photo a little bit beacause otherwise a part of a candle would have been in the shot, so I liked it this was better

A candle? Was this shot indoors?
Well, maybe next time you could move the candle.

Not really a candle but one of these electric Christmas tree lights, just didn't knew the exact word

I think the lighting and colors are very pretty in this shot This may be a personal opinion but I would suggest that the next time you have a chance to take a shot like this, try to keep a consistent background. Even though the focus is the plant, the sharp difference in the background between the woods and snow is somewhat distracting to me. Shooting over the pine, looking down, would make the background all snow. I might also suggest adding a new dynamic to the shot by shooting the pine at a different angle, rather than horizontally across the frame. Even a slight angle will add some movement.

This is a nice winter and/or holiday themed shot. Keep up the good work
