Description I saw Heart of Ice when I was a kid. One of the finest episodes of Batman the Animated Series ever. I fell in love with Mr. Freeze from that point on. I've seen him universally portrayed as a tall super thin guy, but I figured, someone who's body has basically taken on characteristics of ice would have an insanely slow metabolism. So I figure he maybe feeds once every month, but maintains a chunky shape, to some degree. I rarely ever draw or paint fan art, but I think I'll definitely consider this of the same ilk.

Here he is with his iron lung like suit, that sustains his unbelievably cold standard body temperature. He'd sweat to death as if in a desert even in the frozen north of the Arctic. His two bears are named Frigidaire, and Icetrey.

Definitely make it a regular visit you guys. The fellows I work with at Sony Santa Monica are all Kings.

Lots of raw internet photos were used to expedite the process in a concept art fashion. So it is essentially a paint-over of a collage. Look up standing or sleeping polar bear, and I'm sure you'll find the guys I used for these.

Not a huge batman fan, but well, your art nails a unique feel for this character, so I just had to fave it. I like it when someone tweaks a concept while keeping to its roots.

And as much as some people think Deep Freeze is a silly episode, it did bring up he could live for 'thousands of years', suggesting slower biological processes.

On the subject of the painting, the Arkham Series of videogames not only uses a characterization of Batman that makes him sympathetic, but gives Mr. Freeze a variable heart rate. Normal most of the time, but it drops during the famous fight with him in Arkham city.

Nice picture. Very well drawn.

It's always been my belief that the greatest aspect of any Batman story is the villains he faces. Now most supervillains are enjoyable to watch or listen to but what really sets thos of the Batman stories apart from the enemies faced by say Superman or Spiderman is the fact that they are so sympathetic.

Most of the time, they're not people bent on world domination or something cliche like that. Most of the time they're just ordinary people whose lives have been destroyed by the inherent dark elements of Gotham City. In many ways that makes them a mirror for Batman himself. Wronged in the past and often seeking retribution for it. But whilst Batman was able to avoid the dark pit that such a path leads to, they did not and you really feel the tragedy of that.

Every time I see them I think to myself:

"There but for the grace of God goes Batman himself".

And this one, Mr Freeze, has always been the absolute epitome of that concept. So much so that I have never once thought of him as a villain. See the story through his eyes and he's actually a hero like Batman, figthing for what he considers to be justice against those who wronged him and the wife he loved so much.

The absolute greatest Batman villain ever made. Such a shame that only the 90's animated series has ever done him any justice. Everyone else turned him into a joke.

Sorry for my rambling but I just had to get that off my chest.

Again, very good picture. Nice work.

Nah, good ramble. What's more... I hadn't thought about it, but there IS something of Batman in this piece. It's a man so beset by grief that he's become something not entirely human any more, in a cave surrounded only by his creations, the dangerous beings he lives with, and reminders of his past. Which is exactly what Batman is as well.
