Playing with facial builds / villain character designs for WR.Anne told me about a red Brokenstar idea she had read somewhere, and one less "brown tabby" villain sounded neat to me. It also makes sense with some ideas we're throwing around for Brokenstar's era, considering what a mess that is...
I've also been excited to toy around with and introduce WR's Scourge -- she's a blue ticked tabby.
...and a "she"!

Hmm. A female Scourge actually does sound Interesting. And considering cat coats, this pattern actually has some degree of sense as well. Does she still kill Tigerstar or will something else do him in?

god these designs are so damn BEAUTIFUL! i LOVE scourge, and hawkfrost's design is GORGEOUS! brokenstar's red pelt really fits him. and tigerstar is just stunning.

Red Brokenstar is a really fine choice- I think he'll provide a nice contrast, and with Yellowfang being a cryptic tortie, it might further muddle his heritage to any cats who know anything about how their own genetics work (Do they? But I figure a black tabby from a blue solid mother is easy to relate to past experience, while a red tabby from a seemingly blue/black solid mother might throw scent off Yellowfang's tail, especially with a lot of ginger she-cats in Shadowclan at the time if I recall).
And Scourge being a blue ticked tabby- does that mean Quince was likely a purebred Abby/Somali and bred to a presumably Abby/Somali Jake? I'd gather her other kittens would need a design change too in that case

I think over generations the cats ought to have noticed some patterns, the same way that humans do. Especially because Clan cats are not polyamorous, unlike many non-Clan cats, so it would have been a series of very straight-forward, "oh, male offspring from red mollies are only ever red," etc. I think the very recessive genes may still throw them for a loop sometimes, but also that some Clans may know more about certain genes than others -- amber in ThunderClan, for example, and pointing in ShadowClan ("Oh, his grandmother was born white, too, but she had colour on her face and legs by the time she was an apprentice."). I think, in general, in these cases too, they would assume it was biology in play and not jump to accusing the molly of infidelity.
Not too sure yet. Quince could be a moggy, masking ticked tabby, which would still allow for ticked Scourge and black/white Socks and grey Ruby. Or I could make them purebreds, which I would then have to omit the white spotting from Scourge and Socks.

Already commented on this on WR tumblr and I still feel like I'm spamming, but these guys still look amazing. I adore how diverse they all are! Anyway my favorites have to be Fem!Scourge and red-based Brokenstar. Might have to steal one or both.

And I'm afraid not. There's still some important sub-plots we have to tweak and fine-tune before we start drafting. It's taken us a lot longer than we hoped for, but we really want to make sure we get everything right!

Well, it's the fact that their target audience is younger and less experiences with good writing. Coming back now, it's like, "Wait... I could read this crap without grimacing?" The writing doesn't really change or improve that much from the beginning of the series to the end. There's also the problem with all of the inconsistencies between the books themselves. I'm sure you guys will do a great job!

I mean, when I was younger I was definitely impressed with it. I would blow through the books in a week. But children or not, looking back, it definitely feels like they were writing down to their audience, which is very uncool. You gotta give kids more credit!

Yep! Warriors has so few female villains... I think it's just Mapleshade?? But there's really no big reason that Scourge HAD to be a tom, and in real cat colonies, mollies tend to be the "queens" that attract stray toms.

Yeah, I always was bothered by the fact that Mapleshade was the ONLY female villain, maybe because I enjoy seeing female baddies :3. And yes, Scourge being a female really does make a LOT more sense due to how feral cats' social structures tend to work.
