Edit: Yes! My first picture with a transparent background. I just needed to save it as a PNG instead of a JPEG. May go back to some of my other digital pictures and do the same update but probably not since I'd rather be working on newer stuff.

Ok, so this one isn't the best layout wise. I think it's because of how far apart Mario and Bowser are but I didn't want them to be too close if they're preparing for a fight. Would probably look much better with a background but eh... I can't be bothered. I wish I could at least make it transparent though, that would look better. But it's an idea I've had for quite a while and wanted to show it off. Also a bit more practice with digital art, I'm not entirely sure if this is easier or more difficult so I may go back and forth from digital to traditional.

For those who don't know the staff at Nintendo originally wanted a centaur power up in SMB3 and... that's all we know about it. We don't know how it would have looked or what abilities it would have given. But either way it's such a weird idea for a power up, even for Mario. I guess tanooki Mario is also based on an ancient Japanese mythological creature (Or I guess a popular mythological portrayal of a real creature), but a power up based on an ancient Greek mythological creature? Especially when there's no other parallels to Greece in Super Mario Bros 3.

Now I'm not the first person to draw this power and in fact this is probably my favourite interpretation of the scrapped power up fav.me/da0nq6s but I still wanted to draw my own version. The only thing I borrowed was the wreath wrapped around the hat to make Mario's hat look a bit more decorative. Another thing was that I actually made Mario part human/part horse rather than making the horse part a costume since I think such a weird power up deserves a more out of the norm design. I also wrapped a toga around Mario to make him seem less... well... naked.

But what really inspired me to draw this picture was Bowser because all of the pieces seemed to fit together really well. Bowser has been using power ups that give him slightly different designs like in 3D World with Meowser. Bowser was initially designed to be more ox-like in SMB1 until he became more turtle like. And what's another famous human/hooved animal hybrid from Greek mythology known for being particularly ferocious? The Minotaur.

So of course I turned Bowser into a minotaur with ears, a bull wring, a bull's tail, grey fur and hooves for feet. He's also wearing armour loosely based on Greek armour as well as what he wore in Skylanders.
