Oh, Bumper Buddies. This episode, which has the same name as the title of this drawing...again, is special because it's one of the few that really gripped onto my soul. I can understand both of Foduck and Theodore’s perspectives of the situation. This is going to be quite a longer description than the others, because of this episode alone. Theodore doesn't like when Foduck bumps him because it hurts, and he believed that the best option was to simply avoid Foduck. Theodore was so worried about Foduck bumping him again, he caused an accident while docking Gloria. Foduck didn’t understand why Theodore didn’t want to race with him anymore, and was even shocked when he found out that Theodore raced with Hank. That was Theodore and Foduck's special thing, and Foduck was left in the dark. When Foduck asks if Theodore was still his friend, Theodore answers that he’s no longer his friend. It does take some time for Theodore to open up because he was so afraid to be bumped and that Foduck would take it the wrong way. Thankfully, everything went well. In the end, both come to an agreement (a promise) to always tell each other if they don't like what the other is doing. There were really great lessons for people of all ages to learn by. Compromises are essential in relationships / companionship / friendships / etc, and talking things out is the best way to resolve a situation. Again, I can understand both Theodore and Foduck’s perspectives. Theodore was afraid to tell his friend that he didn’t like being bumped and instead of telling the truth, he avoided Foduck. This is completely understandable. Sometimes, we don’t know what to do in a situation where we believe our relationships with the ones we care about are vulnerable to misunderstandings and arguments. So, we say / do nothing or try to avoid the individual. But, when Theodore asked Hank to participate in the special race that both he and Foduck only did together and Foduck found out, I felt so bad for Foduck. Foduck had a more oblivious way of approaching the situation. He only thought it was fun, the good fun...not the bad fun. He wasn't trying to take advantage of Theodore or anything that was considered malevolent. I know others can make the argument that, as a safety tug, Foduck should have known that bumping others is a 'no no'. That is completely understandable. Yet, I felt so bad for him; I can feel for him being left in the dark. I feel like, personally, that was something Theodore shouldn’t have done. If Theodore would have told the truth to him sooner, both the tugboats wouldn't have any problems. At the same time, if Foduck had the inkling that bumping wasn’t fun for Theodore, both the tugboats wouldn’t have any problems. Communication is key in a relationship, whether romantic or platonic. This episode showed complexity in the characters, and oh boy... do I love complex characters. Or characters in complex situations. They make the story more interesting. They make me react to their decisions and actions with sympathy and disbelief. And boy... do I love the psychological perspective of the characters. I love learning psychology. So, this took me a while to draw both Theodore and Foduck’s faces because drawing faces isn’t easy. I kind of got a little lazy and just used the same bases of the tugboats and used two different faces. It basically saved me a little bit of time. Not a lot, just a little. I know that I drew the setting during the nighttime, but again... I got a little lazy. Hopefully, I can find more motivations for future Theodore Tugboat drawings.
