I know I know. it always ticks me off when people dont' put preloaders on their stuff and here I am not doing it either. the honest truth is that I've never sat down and elarned how a preloader works so it just never occurs to me to put one in.

you can get it for free there. It's a .fla you'll have to open it then copy the first frame (the other frames are instructions) and paste it in to your animation's first frame and it's done ^^

no sir! DAMNATION! I don't want to use other peoples stuff. that's baaaaad. even if they offer it to everyone. that's taking sheapy mcCheaperson's way out and I don't end up learning how to do anything but use ctrl+c and crtl+v

they've got an easy to follow tutorial there, though it's, in my opinion, quite a waste of time to do something like a pre-loader yourself, unless you want a more complicated interface, it's just something to load your animations, it's not like taking other people's art or anything. like drawing on paper, you don't waste your time cutting trees and making your own papers out of it right? you buy pre-made papers, it's similar, even kite-ride uses the pre-made preloaders when he doesn't give a damn about the preloading scene, and you can customize it to your liking.

yeah... nch is pretty awesome isn't he (she?) the thing of it is, fuck using other peoples things. if I wanted to be like everyone else and put a horizontal bar whose _xscale = the frames loaded/the framecount then I would, but when one of my animations is worth a loading bar, it's going to be cool. hell, the loading bar itself is going to need a loading bar. my animations don't start when you click play after the jolly newsgrounds loading bar is done, it starts the second you see the loading bar. anything that can be found within the .swf is part of the "experience" if you will. so when my animations become so big that they need load screens, you will think it is the animation, until the play button appears.
If it makes someones jaw drop, then it's worth cutting down my own tree to make paper for.
