Heck yea, this is great! The pose is absolutely spot on. However the small detail that absolutely completes this piece are the position of the sword and the light coming in from the sky, which both make the composition satisfying to look at. However if it were me, I would have perhaps tilted the sword a bit so that the whole length of it would point a bit towards the character as right now it is an incredibly eye catching detail in the piece that almost steals the attention from the character and by tilting it a bit outwards from the character its length would point the viewers eye back to the character itself, making it compete a bit less for attention. I feel the main point in this piece was to show the character so I am mentioning this because of that. But even with that, this is great, I just love that pose, good stuff.

Hmm, yeah, that's a good point. I do think that would make the composition stronger, for sure. Thank you for the feedback, and I'm glad you like it! I think the pose turned out good as well.

I like the light coming from the sky.
And the castle in the background, blurred by the humidity.

Damn, he looks badass! His head is actually a lot rounder than I thought at first, maybe that's just the angle though.
You really excel in making armor look great and shiny, and it shows that you know every little about how they work.
Anatomy and perspective look spot on, background fits nicely as well.
Also, great job on the tail. I don't know why, but the amount of depth and roundness I'm getting from it is insane.
Speaking of tails and seeing those little straps you put on there, it reminded me of a tumblr post I once saw a long time ago, which I thought was really neat: What's your opinion on tail bags ? (click the link)
I also have a question: Did you shade this "normally", like with a multiply layer et cetera, or did you paint the whole thing? It looks to me like you painted it, but I'm not 100% sure. Either way, it looks absolutely fantastic! Bringing in the right colors into normally gray steel really makes it stand out.
All in all, fantastic job, keep going!

Thanks so much!
I have indeed done a little redesigning, so the head is overall much rounder. And I'm glad the work paid off with the armor, I did a little bit of studying to figure it out more and make something nice. Like I said I put a lot of time into each stage of this one (almost painfully so)... but hey, it was all learning. Also, I don't think I've seen the tail bags... That's so good. I'm all for it! I may incorporate that at a later date...
To answer your question, this is painted without the use of multiply layers. I find multiply layers are fine for cel shading or otherwise simple shading, but for stuff like this it's not too useful. I used the occasional overlay layer for some extra color (which I merge into the appropriate color layer), as well as luminosity layers for that "bloom" effect with the armor. Additionally, I've begun starting dark and painting light, rather than starting light and painting dark, which I find makes a ton of sense for most situations. Of course it's just a preference but I've been playing around with it and it's a pretty cool technique! Thank god for digital art... I'm spoiled to it
Anyways, I appreciate the feedback!
