Depressingly beautiful, the contrast between the grayed stumps and the sparkling water is especially noteworthy.

Yes it is a artifical lake. It was flooded back in the 1920's when they dammed the valley for a hydro electricity. They lower it every now and then to do maintence, its a wonderful place to hike if you don't mind getting a little muddy.

We haver a lot of similar damms in Australia, but the water is usually down due to drought.
