Why did not such a promising layout be widely used in any Air Force?

Looks like a far better design than the Curtis Ascender.Β Though I wonder if dividing the vertical stabilizer into two smaller units would have been a better choice, so that if one was damaged the other would still function, and thereby giving the aircraft a shorter landing gear.Β And the air scoop for the radiator could have been more angle forward so as not to contribute to buffeting.
Just my take on this interesting design.Β If you could move the cockpit forward some more and place the armament into the wing roots, could a jet engine be fitted instead of the piston one?

Β There was another version with smaller rudder on the wings, without reducing the length of the main landing gear though, as the propeller is still there! There was also a version with a jet engine, the P.212!
Β Β Many thanks for your kind comment, much appreciated!!

Quite welcome.Β And thank you for presenting such an interesting aircraft.Β Wonder how well it would have stood up to the Lightning.Β My guess is that it could turn on a Deutsche mark and give you 70 pfennigs in change.Β

Β Those miniature, arrow like fighter series should be quite maneuverable but at the end, they would have to deal with the F-86s!

I believe they would give the Mig-15 and F-86 a run for their money.Β As a jet, that is.

Beautiful art.
Some tech notes. The landing gear had to be extra long to accommodate the dorsal fin which would have added weight and weakness andΒ
interferedΒ with the nose cannon and ammo.Β
Stability would still be a problem even with the winglets and stabilizers. Which would cause drag.Β
I wonder about cooling ?Β
Not the war winner or even a good match for that P38 in the background.Β but still a cool looking ship.Β

Β Β Thank you for your comment! As for the dorsal rudder, well, itΒ΄s a fictional aircraft, why bother with rivet counting?

Your art work is wonderful and I know you didn't design it. I was just commenting on it.Β
I have posted a few drawing on y plane and you'll see I'm no rivet counter.Β

I'm not sure whether you mean that there never was a proposal to build the BV 208, or whether you mean that this picture is fictional because it never flew.
I guess it really doesn't matter, does it?Β Reichsmarschall Goering was out of pilots and fuel by then.

Did someone test if such a design would have worked?

djravefox In reply to AnAspieInPoland [2019-12-15 17:49:59 +0000 UTC]
I dont think it would work it Is missing a tale wing but even with that I feel like the main wings would not bring it in the air you would probably haft to bring it more in the the front but then you would haft to change the body a bit

Pusher-propeller airplanes don't need a tail. In fact, many modern pusher-prop planes have this overall layout, so the Bv 208 could have realistically flown if it were built.
