Description "Meridia, Lady of Infinite Energies, is an obscure Daedric Prince, and very little is known about her by mortals except that she is associated with the energies of living things. Meridia has a great and everlasting hatred for the undead and will greatly reward any who eliminate them from the world. It is stated that Meridia is one of the few Daedric Princes that are considered to be not wholly evil. To the Ayleids, she represented their fourth element, light."

My entry for 's contest: [link]
The theme was to draw your favorite Daedra Lord wielding their artifact. Now, I had a hard time deciding which Daedric Prince I should draw since I like quite many of them. For this entry it was a close tie between Nocturnal and Meridia, but in the end I chose to go for the latter one. Here Meridia is wielding both her beacon and the Dawnbreaker sword which appear in Skyrim - no Ring of Khajiiti, though, sorry.
It was fun depicting her. I should probably draw all Deadric Princes at some point, but I guess this is as good place as any to start with...

Meridia is so awesome! I received Dawnbreaker at level 15 after a bad trip from Solsthiem and, at level 33, I have only used Chillrend or a bow when Dawnbreaker wasn't enough. Merida and Sheogorath are, in my option, the two best Daedra! And your picture of Meridia is so awesome, I can't even describe how much I love it!

Ah, Meridia.Β  I don't particularly mind doing the bidding of this Daedric Princess, as her goals happen to coincide with my own.

Β

The only other Daedra I don't have a problem with is Azura, and Sheogorath, but only because he's such a goofy son of a bitch.Β  I've got nothing against Hircine or Malacath, Sanguine's only interested in partying, and Clavicus Vile's okay, as long as you're not dumb enough to accept a deal from a freaking demon lord.

Β

The rest I'll gladly trick, deceive, thwart, and double-cross.Β  Hell, I'd smash their altars, if I could.

I just don't like how she held an entire race accountable for the actions of a few individuals. Plus, there was that whole college star kerfuffle.

SuperNormalMan In reply to evhantheinfidel [2014-02-24 23:33:06 +0000 UTC]

Keep in mind that the dwemer DID enslave an entire race of mer, and warped them into little more than animals.Β  It's more than likely that they regularly practiced science without sense, so they had it coming.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

evhantheinfidel In reply to SuperNormalMan [2014-02-25 04:45:09 +0000 UTC]

I wasn't referring to the dwemer (though the same flaw holds sway in your reasoning, plus it's uncertain that they're responsible for the falmer), but the dunmer. She changed every single existing dunmer's skin and eyes because of the betrayal of Nerevar by three people and some shifts in faith. The ashlanders didn't even change their faith, yet they were altered simply because they were chimer.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SuperNormalMan In reply to evhantheinfidel [2014-02-25 21:42:01 +0000 UTC]

...I suppose that her reasoning was to create a reminder to never betray her again, and that breaking a promise with a daedric lord had serious consequences.Β  She had to leave a message for ALL the chimer.

As for the dwemer-falmer situation, there is evidence that the dwemer were, indeed, responsible for warping the falmer.Β  Take their souls, for instance.Β  Normally, you'd only be able to store a sentient being's soul in a black soul gem, right?Β  That goes for man, mer, and the two beast races.Β  When you do a soul trap on a falmer, however, their souls can be stored in any kind of soul gem.Β  Somehow, the dwemer did something to the falmer to change their very souls.

Think about it; why do you usually find soul gems in dwemer constructs?Β  They were most likely made using falmer souls.Β  The dwemer were using the falmer as fuel.

evhantheinfidel In reply to SuperNormalMan [2014-02-28 03:12:47 +0000 UTC]

I am aware that that was Azura's reasoning and it was poor (or malicious). First of all, individuals' decisions to worship something else is not a betrayal. What's more, it was down to the individual and not the race, though it would still be bad if it were. I mean, think about it: if I had a great following from a particular racial group who mostly decided to shift their alliegences, I would be viewed as a monster if I then went out and horribly scarred or forcibly altered every single member of that race (or even the individuals with the alliegence shift) to serve as a warning never to cross me again. My status as mortal or immortal doesn't affect that. TES gods are typically capricious, cruel overlords with psychological issues.

As for the dwemer, evidence isn't the same as certainty, which I pointed out that the latter was what was missing (though, I did mean it as the closest we can get with things as philosophically challenged as induction). The dwemer were good and bad; their intellectual values far surpassed those around them, but many of their ethics were barabric. The soul argument doesn't work, though. I think the likelier answer to why the soul sizes vary is game mechanics. In Oblivion, all dremora, even the churls, had black souls due to the fact that they were counted as a race a not a creature. Xivilai, types of dremora more powerful than most, had grand souls since they were counted as creatures. Liches had grand souls even though their souls were supposed to be dead elves', but it wasn't the fact that they were undead, since vampires had black souls. In Morrowind, things like Vivec, Almalexia, and Dagoth Ur could be trapped in huge soul gems like Azura's star, but black soul-trapping was impossible. It seems to me that god souls would be harder to capture since mortal souls are their descendents. It wouldn't even make since for the Dwemer to warp falmer souls if it's fuel their after; black souls are the most powerful.

Alright, so Azura isn't a very nice daedric lord, but I've never viewed her as downright malevolent.

As for the soul gem argument, I more or less got it from a TVtropes page, and it made sense to me, although I may have abridged it a bit, as I tend to have a habit to do so.Β  However, I was talking about soul TYPE, not soul SIZE.Β  Soul gem sizes had nothing to do with the argument.

I must say, though, that you're putting quite a bit of thought into this.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

evhantheinfidel In reply to SuperNormalMan [2014-02-28 06:40:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I get into it a little too much. Sorry about that! I also agree that Azura isn't particularly malevolent. The reason I brought up size for soul gems is that I was unsure if calling the, for example, xivilai's grand soul a white soul would be true to the lore. It actually just occurred to me that black soul gems may not have existed when the dwemer did, so my previous point could be unsound...to the books!

Dawnbreaker is also the most usefull weapon to have in the Dawnguard DLC, and pretty much the rest of the game because the Drouger are one of the most common enemies that you would ever encounter. And its enchantment will also set liveing thing on fire.

Well, mostly it's just playing with words... At first, I read "bacon" instead of "beacon". And if you lay some effort in it (and have seen those horrible things I have seen), the beacon can kindo look like a ball of curled-up bacon, only covered in thick, greasy fat. Though, if it's curled-up and covered in thick layers of grease, I guess most things would look like that...
