While I have read about Melkor, I'm unfortunately not familiar with Sargeras.

Sargeras was an ancient Titan, whose duty was to protect the universe from Demons from the twisting Nether. He however started to view creation as incredibly flawed and believed it had to be destroyed and made anew. He found a rase known as Eredar and convinced two of his leaders, Archimonde and Kil'Jaeden to join his side, his right and left hands. He also released all the demons he had impresiones and began his crusade to destroy the universe.
Read this if you're curious about it, there's much more information. Sargeras himself was pretty much inspired by Melkor. As much as most modern fantasy derives from Tolkien's works, at least.
