Oh I am sure it is, nevertheless while I have been on my bike all my life, I would be hesitant to take it in NYC! Note that I was feeling the same about Paris, and I crossed it twice last fall, going from one train station to another with my bike, and found it pretty okay.

There is plenty places in NYC when you are very safe with bike (Brooklyn for example) but I wouldn't ride bike in Manhattan - too busy.
