Well, it's usually more of a case of localizing people thinking people wouldn't get it if the song isn't in English. (This happens more often to Animes targeted toward kids.) Although there's still many Animes that keep their openings even in the English version. And thanks a lot!

Well, I have my opinion about censorship. Personally I think censorship in general is silly, also in the case of children's programming. I mean, I don't think it's good to treat kids like they're dumb and keep them in sterile bubbles. Besides, things like humor and pop culture references from other countries add to cultural experience.
Yeah! The different scripts are used for different reasons. Hiragana is used the most frequently, and is used primarily to spell Japanese originated words and names. Katakana is used mostly to spell out words and names from other languages; for instance, the word "pilot" or the name "Max".

Yes, it's good to not hide up everything from them, I mean, one day we're gonna grow up and all be dumb and awkward, but there are downsides to these things as well, a little kid may not understand that looking up a girl skirt is wrong, because it was in the song on pokemon... When I'm older, my kids aren't going to be sheltered and spoiled, but I hope they don't grow up to be all pervy. Bleh.
And wow that's cool! Do the Japanese kids have to learn ALL of them?
