Description In spite of its rather ominous name, The Slaughters is not a slaughterhouse - it's a large country inn in the picturesque Cotswold village of Lower Slaughter. The name is rather irrepresentative of the place, as it's one of the most peaceful, quiet villages in the county knows for peaceful and quiet villages, most of which are now sadly overrun with tourists. It speaks volumes about the peaceful way of life in Lower Slaughter that the village's biggest news in decades was the conflict between its residents and the ice cream salesmen, who apparently damaged the local grass with the wheels of their tricycle ;D

I love Lower Slaughter, probably the most picturesque village in England

Definitely a contender for this spot, though for me that would probably be Polperro ;D

Very nice village, but it's everything but sleepy on the weekends when the hordes of tourists come ;D

Cotswolds I remember visiting the area when I lived in Swindon nearby - if you are there remember to visit Cirencester and Quenington - there is a Romanesque church and a Hospitaller priory there (in Quenington). I like your photo a lot, it is peaceful and captures the atmosphere of the area well. Also, the name may indeed be quire misleading thank you for sharing!

I've been to Cirencester! Unfortunately, I don't have good photos to share, because I wasn't alone and I prefer to leave my camera at home when I'm with friends. In fact, I've even been to Swindon, but I also don't have any photos, for a different reason - nothing to take a photo of ;D

Yes, Swindon can be depressing at times but it was waaaay cheaper than living in Reading when my University was - plus we had a car so we could drive around a bit - Swindon has the 'magic roundabout' which is as close to a cool tourist site as it gets
