Description This fairy is very stylish and fearless, hence the killer heels in freezing cold

I would like to thank Luc for letting me use his photo of gorgeous Lara as a reference. I love this picture, there's something about the atmosphere, colours and Lara's elfin beauty that makes it very special for me.

I know it's not the perfect painting. I seem to be trying to run before I can walk with acrylics in a sense that I keep painting people, which I find extremely tricky and struggle with skin tones and blending every single time. But I'm happy with it nevertherless, my main goal was to capture the mood and experiment with colours and textures. Again, scanner made it look a bit harsher Ah well

This is lovely. Great detail on the coat, it looks soft enough to touch. I like the colour scheme as well.

Really well done too, beautiful colours and the fur seem like a lot of work.

Thank you very much The fur wasn't really that difficult, that's the beauty of acrylics, you can paint over and create fine hairs fith tiny brush quite easy.

You took on a hard one, that's a lot of different textures to take on on in acrylic, pretty good job but, skins also difficult to blend in acrylic, you might want to start with darker washes in your darker area's and perhaps add a few blue tones in the skin shadows to push them back into the painting a bit, i'm not sure about using these paints on watercolor paper as it makes your pencil work look a bit bumpy!.. just my opinion, each to there own and all that!, Anyway good job and fair play to you for being brave, Gary

Thank you very much for the compliment and advice, Gary Very smart advice too, too smart for me I've no theory to back me up with acrylics and ashamed to admit that I have no clue what washes are. When I started painting I was too impatient and didn't want to waste my time reading tutorials. I think that thanks to people like you I will be able to correct my ignorance.

Don't be worrying about theory and all that.. Just get stuck in and see what happens!
Washes are just watered down acrylics that you can gradually build up as layers,
that's what i call em anyway, at the same time think about what way you'd like to paint
and what way you think would suit your style and aim for somewhere in the middle, if you know
what i mean...

Thanks very much You're right, fairy wings are not that practical anyway, would need to cut holes at the back in your dresses!

Raishuu [2009-01-13 18:41:05 +0000 UTC]

You really captured the atmosphere well, I liek the colours and the softness in this. I think the shoe sticks out a bit, maybe it's because its colour or because it doesn't drop shadows on the shoe. Or maybe the shadows on the skin aren't dark enough, I don't know. But that's really the only thing that looks off. And like others have said, the detail in the fur is amazing!!

IreneShpak In reply to Raishuu [2009-01-14 16:49:16 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much I think you're right about the shoe - it was the very last thing I did and I was so impatient to finish it that I just quickly painted it black. I might go back and fix it
