I thought it might be interesting to show the level of detail which I work at for my bigger paintings... I have this habit of making them a little too "epic" and I often find that by cropping them down like this makes them into a better image!You can see Mary's seaweed hair better in this one.
I painted Mary BEFORE I learnt about Mighty Boosh's "Old Greg" btw!

Yeah, I can see the details in 3D now. It's pretty interesting but I think the seaweed hair may have got entangled with the tree... Cropping things down can be pretty helpful to get rid of unwanted negative excesses but it should not distort or took away the contents of the whole picture as well.

You're possibly right, although there is no tension in the hair, and the purpose of these was primarily to show how much detail I put in, not to make proper compositions by themselves.

I personally don't place Mr Susan as a favourite... he was like a poor-man's "Sandstorm" in my opinion... but everyone else I knew was raving about him. ^__^
