Because when your brother is an X-man, the only way to get noticed is to become a demon queen.

Great Magik.Β  She's really taken off in the last few years and thank goodness.Β  It's probably due to a couple factors: Brian Bendis wrote her as a badass plus she's got a pretty sexy outfit.Β  I'm so ticked Disney took away her booty shorts and gave her pants.Β

I'm really looking forward to the upcoming What If...? comic where she's Sorcerer Supreme.Β  That's one that I am definitely picking up.

It's a whole different ballgame now.Β  Comic art is really sanitized with excitement and energy being sacrificed on the alter of realism.Β  I guess it's part of living in the age of the internet since now there are plenty of websites showcasing "bad" comic art that's bad just because it shows a woman striking a pose in a revealing costume.Β  I can't tell you how sick I am of the phrase "SPINES DON'T BEND THAT WAY!"

Plus hardly any writers/artists know how to do action now.Β  It's either them mindlessly punching one another with onlooking marveling at their power or completely one sided.Β  It reminds me of an old interview Gerry Conway gave about his early days with Daredevil.Β  He'd get a page saying Matt would enter his apartment then would take off his suit to reveal his costume as he walked through it before exiting through a window.Β  His first page was exactly that and everyone hated it.Β  Then Jack Kirby showed him how it was done: He'd have Matt jump like a spider-monkey ripping off his clothes to show off his uniform before backflipping out the window like a total boss.

These days, Gerry's initial draft would be used and Kirby's would be rejected.

I know and I can't blame them for wanting to appeal to a wider audience but when I read comics today, I really don't think I would enjoy most of what Marvel puts out.Β  I today's audiences are more savey than ever thanks to the internet and know all the tricks there really is a completely different tone and style in both art and script today than what was used in the 90s and 80s.Β  Meta-commentary is so common now with references on the media and tropes that all of it feels like it comes first than the actual story.

What worries me is if the industry will still be around in another decade.Β  Comics are just so expensive now and since they're not in the magazine isle that cuts off a huge line of revenue.Β  I still can't believe Disney of all companies hasn't looked into this.Β  There definitely big enough that they could tell Diamond Distribution to go F itself and put those books back in grocery/drug stores.Β  It just seems like they're really making such a big mistake here.

I understand comic sales are also suffering. It would be tragic if the movies were soon the only place we saw out heroes
