This is what most people would call an adorable street adorned with little doll houses, completely furnished and filled with such realism that it brings warmth to those around it in such a blissful appreciation for the craftsmanship. It’s a good few blocks on a wide-spread grid containing at least fifty miniature, fully functional houses. Complete with its own set of living, breathing tiny humans to inhabit its beauty.

Or you’d be better off calling it hell, if you were the human stuck inside it. I haven’t even been here long and the area already gives me the creeps. There is no way anyone can get used to the giants wandering around a store, staring into your world, and judging every aspect about you. There’s nothing to do, either. It’s maybe my second week here. I live in a small pink house between an orange one and a baby blue one. I’m pretty sure, though I could be wrong, a twenty one year old girl lives in the orange house, and a twelve-year-old lives in the blue one.

I sat up on the second story of the house, which merely contained a bedroom. Sitting on the floor, farthest away from the window, I ran over the information I’d been told by my neighbor. Though a few thoughts comforted me, others really didn’t. I guess the first thing to know is that this half of the store, the one I’m on, only contains female humans. It’s segregated for obvious reasons. The creepy tall ass-hats want us to only bond with the giants, not with ‘potential mates’ as they put it. Speaking of girls, the females are more popular amongst the giants. Apparently we ‘put up less of a fight’ or some bullshit like that.

Moving on, one of the few good things about this particular hell-hole I’m currently residing in is that there are no children below the age of 10 even allowed into the store. Different stores have different age limits, but thanks to the Human Protection Society, or HPS, no child under the age of 10 is allowed to ‘own’ a human. Along with that law follows the pregnancy clause. Pregnant humans are not to be taken back, nor are children under the age of 8. Added to that, after years of research, giants are legally not allowed to be ‘human breeders’ due to deaths and trauma of their subjects. That’s good and all... I guess.

So, children strictly aren’t allowed to own humans. A sort of ‘fun fact,’ though it’s not very fun if you ask me, is who comes in to buy humans for pets the most. Aside from teenagers, it tends to be pregnant women, and single men. I couldn’t tell you what would be the worst out of those four. Most of the girls seem to want a doll, the guys want some form of amusement, pregnant women want something to practice nurturing I’d assume, and single men... I draw a bit of a blank on, though I’d say it would have to do with... a cheesy human wing-man? I guess the pregnant women sound best, but they don’t show up as often, and when they do, they’re usually the pickiest.

Another thing the HPS is good for is the restriction of murder. Giants are prohibited from buying humans to kill them, because apparently that needed to be a law? Fantastic. Along with the murder was eating the humans. That wasn’t allowed, thank god. To enforce those two rules, humans are a very... pricey pet.

Eugh... it hurts just thinking about it all. Stupid human race... trying to gain contact with nearby planets... had to find the one planet that whooped their asses into next week. I can’t remember when it happened, really. Humans still live on Earth... Most do, actually. Above the forties and most giants don’t deem the humans worthy of adoption, I guess. Pregnant women, also, are left behind, along with their young children. I’m pretty sure that the giants come to earth every ten years to... collect.

The first time I saw the giants I was too young and my parents were too old, so none of us left. Though, the next time around I wasn’t so fortunate. I’m sixteen now; I still remember the giant that took me trying to explain how ‘that’s the perfect age for adoption.’ Screw that guy.
