How do you know if your foot is fractured? Without going to the doctor, there really is no way, is there.
How do you go to the doctor when anyone seeing you wearing a gasmask will go absolutely bananas?
Don’t ask me…
For the time being, we were waiting it out.

I had carried her until we had found a small river. And I had practically thrown her in.
Although not really… luckily… luckily I managed to stop myself from actually tossing her in the river. Wet supplies help no one, and people suddenly finding themselves in a body of water, often have a tendency to momentarily forget that they can in fact swim.

After quickly disinfecting ourselves, we walked up river, until we found a small lake hidden in a bunch of brushes and tall grass. We finally sat down. I ripped my mask off.

    -       Ata, you are crying!
    -       Crying?

I touched my face, and realised that I did in fact have tears running down my cheeks. I hadn’t noticed.  This was bad. I started painfully removing my shoes. For the second time in just a short while. I hadn’t even realized then.

    -       Oh my god! Did you break them?
    -       I hope not.

My ankles were badly bruised.

    -       What will you do?
    -       I guess the only thing I can do is wait and see, if it starts swelling.

It was better the next day… Not “healed”… just “better”… I had thanked the gods.
A fracture, would have meant swelling up to twice the size by now…

Then of course, came the second question.
How the h*** would we get ourselves to Roundpike?
We couldn’t take the train. That was for sure.
Any other form of public transportation was probably the same.
Walking would take a ridiculously long time.
My ankles probably needed a second day of rest to be on the safe side.
And when I could walk, would we take the normal roads?
Without meeting people?
How?
When?
