Description Not super old work, a little more than a year ago, I think... illustrations for a Kenzer & Co. adventure module entitled (I believe), The Curse of Pen Griffen. I rather liked this one a lot, but I got slapped back a little for using a digital background.

And, truth to tell, that background is pretty bad.

::EDIT 042506::

In fact, it's so bad I'm gonna pretend I didn't do it. It's a nicer piece of spot illustration without it... less moody, kinda incomplete-looking, but also not so damn embarrasing.

I like the characters and the zombies in this though, so (since I'm a bit busy still) I thought I'd toss it up as a treat. Let me know whatcha think about it. Traditional ink on Bristol, original size about 6x8, with a background generated in Photoshop by creating a tapered line and duplicating it repeatedly.

This image is ©2004 Kenzer & Co, so keep yer grubby mitts off it. I got prettier pictures if you want to play with something. Just send me a Note.

Well, background or no background, I love it!
Love it so much i'm coloring it!
Would you be really pissed off if I slap those colors and then upload it on dA?
If not, any requests concerning the colors?

Have fun with it! Let me know when you post it.

I'd suggest a strong column light from above, with maybe a little secondary light coming from off the wizard's casting hand. Zombies go best in putrid greens, yellows and grays.

It should be up preety soon (by that I mean a week or two...lol.... not much time for painting these days)
I've mostly finished the mage, the halfling and the elf, leavin the zombies and the bg color to the end...
I guess you'd like the way it's going... of course it still neds some touches and i'm still developing my skills, but i've been getting manycompliments, specially on the halfling...
if you want i'll post a "WIP" so you can take a first look, k?
tks!

Thanks! I think it suffers from a lack of a background to set the piece, but I was young and foolish then.

I've had days like this. You're just trying to get a carton of milk, and next thing you know you're up to your eyeballs in zombies and all you've got is some rope, a crossbow and you brought the wrong spellbook...

Just from looking at the thumbnail, I thought it was a Discworld pic. Half expecting Rincewind to be dangling down from that rope. It's got a similar sort of zany feel to it. (Bristol is a type of paper, ya?)

That background is definitely a turn off, but the crisp inking on the figures greatly makes up for it. So fresh and so clean...other than the background, there's nothing that I would crit. Awesome work!

I was trying to get a sort of lighting effect, which works better when the lines are MUCH smaller.

That, and I was trying to cut a corner. Yeah, I admit it... hey, when it works, people never even notice. Of course, when it doesn't...
