Felt like sketching something new this time; young Raphael receiving his very first weapons from Master Splinter. Not knowing what to do with them yet, but later on in life, he'll get used to them.Quick question: does anybody else know that Raphael has some problems with his knees, or is it just me that knows about it? I've seen some episodes of Raphael getting hit by the knees, and his reaction just looks painful. Also, if you look closely at his knees were his knee pads are, you can see the braces underneath them. I'm guessing he has some knee problems, so that's the reason why I placed knee braces on him.

It's a theory, supposedly he has a possible knee injury from his past, and has to wear the knee braces. There's a lot of scenes of him with them, you just gotta have good eyes to get a close look at them.

Yea I see it now! It may be that he likes to cover his skin, his pads are too big, and or he dives on them a lot making them weaker, but he jumps and bends them a lot so how much of a brace could it be? But this is really cute and interesting

I've seen them, I just thought they were like wrappings or it was sports tape or whatever. But they could very well be braces. If he does, which I'm pretty sure, they could be both or either one

Either way, I enjoy the smallest details on a character not many people would actually notice.

If I can remember, it's when they first fight the foot clan, I think Old Friend New Enemies. There was another one where Donnie and Raph were fighting, and you can definitely tell his weak spot are his knees because he reacts to it in an odd way.

well a saw something like that, in the episode when they meet the foot clan , a foot hit raphaelΒ΄s knee and itΒ΄s has only one bandage and in the episode when donnie hits RaphΒ΄s knees he has more bandages in his knees :3 Β

Can be braces, they're not like the bandages they use on their wrists and ankles.

Raph doesn't have knee braces that's just the shadow from his kneepads I know I've seen literally EVERY episode in all 3 series and you would see them when he bent his knees sorry just being realistic

he does have extra wrappings on his knees under his knee pads which are probably covering his braces. im thinking his knees got hurt the same time he got his blastron and teh back of his shell chiped. if you notice it looks like something fell right across his plastron and shell cause both chips are lined up with each other. and as for ppl saying he had his plastron chiped when he was mutated in the intro im thinking thats just so we knew which turtle was which when they showed it. not that thats when it happened but just as a way of telling them apart in that clip. but these are just theories.

I saw 1 episodeΒ in which Raphael fights Donatelo (not Serie 1) and Raph gets apply to the knee, but beyond that I do not know even the name of the episode

I'm wanting to search for that one now, thanks for the info though. But yeah, throughout the time of this series, I feel as if Raphael does have some knee problems; under his knee pads are some dark grey covers, I'm pretty sure they look like the pads most athletes wear especially when they have some knee problems.

I did notice it, though there's no mention of it anywhere. I did notice him getting smacked in the knee in one episode. He reacted the same way I do when I hit my bad knee on something (which of course, always happens to that particualr one XD....murphy's law follows me everywhere :/)
I haven't seen anything mentioned in wikis or in the show, but I'm hoping they'll explain it at some point. It seems to be more like extra wrappings to me than actual braces, but I could be wrong :3. Nice work btw, this is totally cute

Yeah either way, I would like to know what's behind those "braces", considering Raphael is the most hyperactive and aggressive one on the team. But thank you though!

Though I didn't realized of him being hit on his knees, but the bandages are an interesting piece. Maybe he has some problems, but is still a bit young, isn't he

It's during the beginning with Donatello and Raphael are doing a fighting session. Donatello uses his staff to separate Raph's legs, his reaction looks painful, but it's so quick you have to really pay close attention

True, but sometimes you can tell what's more painful, and what isn't. I work with facial expressions everyday when drawing characters, especially character sheets for a studio in LA, so I know what looks bad or good, painful or not, yadayadayada.

Hmmm...I remember the look of pain on his face in the episode "Operation: Breakout", but didn't notice the braces. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to watch every episode to look for it. 
I also wonder if we'll hear the story behind his "Harry Potter lightning scar" on the far upper left corner of his plastron.

It's on Operation Breakdown, I think there's a scene from New Friend Old Enemy, and some other one. You have to really look while they show Raphael, his design on his bottom part of his body is different than the others.
Now for the chipped plastron, like my Eng4 teacher always told my peers "not every story will always feed you on what happened at the end, that's your job to feed yourself and figure out what happened"
