Description Who hasn't hung cherries from their ears as a child (or even as an adult)? It's always been a ritual of mine with the first cherries of the season, so I thought I would make some cherry earrings I could wear whenever I wanted.

These are life-size, and I've been asked more than once if they're real!

Materials: aluminium foil, wire, polymer clay (Sculpey III), acrylics to give it a bit of "real" color, glossy glaze for the cherries and mate glaze for the stems.

awesome idea! chrries are one of my favorite things to clay, and are one of my most requested earings but i never thought of making them this way have an idea:
you could insert an eyepin all the way throught the stem and attach the ring of the eyepin to a stud like this one:[link]
or simply use green wire for the stem.
for the back cherry you can use one of those barrel clasps that have like a "dish" [link] so you have a surface to attach the stem to

Man if you could get these to be a bit more sturdy and mass producable I'd buy a pair from you these are great!

Thank you! I'm working on the "sturdy" part. I'm trying to learn from my mistakes ^^

Mass producible, I don't think I can do no matter how fast I work! I might make a few more as commissions, though.

There is a glue called goop that really really stick. There slogan is bonds whatever sticks forever. In my experiance it is really true. LOL The cherries are AMAZING. I LOVE them!

Thank you!

"goop"? I can't imagine asking for that in a shop. In Spanish.

Just kidding. I'll make sure to research it. Maybe I can find it online, or get the composition so I can find a brand that sells it here. Thanks for the tip!

I love the stuff my only discourse with it is the damned tube. It's a little hard to squeeze. I fixed it tho with my new tube. I bought these unfilled thin tip bottles at my local Joann's and squeezed it in there. Much easier on the hand if you have allot to glue.

I love cherries. I love their taste. I love their texture. And I most of all love how they look.
And I love how these earrings look! ! Could've fooled me had I not seen the title!

You've done a wonderful job! 8,D! These are so super cute! ! They indeed look so realistic ;A;. (makes me envy you and want a pair myself, alas, my ears aren't pierced! )

Fantastic job and instant fave! Good job!

Thank you! Oh, I love cherries too. Taste, texture, looks. I even love the memories they bring!

Aw... un-pierced ears. Fortunately for me, my parents had my ears pierced when I was born... I think I would have been too scared to pierce them now

Yay! Instant fave!

They look so real! Great job! But are you sure nothing will break off? The studs don't seem to hang on too tightly.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ingalain In reply to FrozenNote [2012-05-20 17:18:51 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

Yeah, they're kinda fragile. I made them like this thinking about a new glue I bought that advertised as extra-strong-will-stick-anything-together-forever. It was called araldite or something like that? Anyways, didn't work, so I ended up using plain "super glue", and it seems to hold if I'm careful when removing them.

I'm already thinking about a re-design. I'll put the stud inside the clay, and see if it doesn't break. I don't know about the other cherry, the one behind the ear. It doesn't really need to be glued to the clasp to work, so I guess I won't worry much about it.

Any ideas?

Have you tried Aleene's Jewelry Metal Glue? I think its something like $5 at Wal-mart. It works great on most of my projects, maybe it would work in this case?

Ingalain In reply to N-Chiodo [2012-05-21 12:44:29 +0000 UTC]

No. I heard of it some time ago, and I've been trying to find it, but no luck. I've tried some 'jewelry glues' of other brands, but nothing's as strong as advertised

Thanks for the tip, though! I'll definitely order it if I see it online!

Super glue is the only thing I can suggest... Not much more... Adding a stud is also a good idea, yes, maybe it will be safer..
