Historically, isn't he known as Arturious Castus?

It is certainly a popular belief that Lucius Artorius Castus was inspiration for the mythical figure of King Arthur.
This Arthur, however, was inspired by TH White's Once and Future King - published in 1958. White was inspired by Malory who in turn was inspired by Geoffrey of Monmouth and other contemporaries... by the time you get to me drawing this piece - there is very little historical authenticity to be found haha.

Your castle is very much in the Spanish heraldic style. Do you study heraldry as I have done for 50 years?

Thanks, I'm glad you like it, but I really ought to do another Arthurian piece. This one is kind of embarrassing to look at after all this time.

You're welcome! How's it embarrassing? Maybe you could do Arthur's killer, Mordred the Murderer (that's what I like to call him)?

His whole look is awesome, from the 12th century style mail and clothing, down to the leather shoulder guards. It looks appropriately historical and mythic, just how Arthur should look.
I love how simple Excalibur looks: not prettied up with weird shapes or anything. It's just a simple, extraodinarily powerful blade. His missing scabbard is a nice touch too, which means this would have been him after Morgana stole the sheath?

Wow... Someone knows his Authurian history. I'm impressed! There's so many people who don't even know Excalibur from Caliburn, or their Lancelot from their Percival.

Awseome!I like how you didn't give him full body armour, because it came to use in the 13th century, while King Arthur has been sead to live in either the 4th,5th or 6th century

It's a nice piece. I just have a bit of issues with the arms displayed on his surcoat. A more apporiate one to use would have been 3 gold lions on red background as the ones you've used have the fluer-de-lyis representing France.

First of all, I'm glad you like the piece : )
In regard to the arms, historically the golden lions on a red field have been used with the English kings of the house of Plantagenet after Henry II.
Arthur has been seen and described with anywhere from three to thirteen crowns on either a red or blue backing, representing his numerous domains, which include areas in France. As for the fleur-de-lys, TH White's The Once and Future King describes Arthur's father Uther as a kind of William the Conqueror figure, and Merlin frequently describes the nobility as Norman. National borders weren't as clear cut as they are today, at least not until later in the Middle Ages : )
The dragon rampant would be his father's coat of arms, while I threw in the castle and the cross to represent Camelot and his piety, or to signify the grail quest.
Thanks for bringing up the coat-of-arms, I love discussing details like that!

I'm glad to see he isn't in any REAL plate armour, that would of been inaccurate to the time period.
Nice job.
